The Floating University is a new university creating on the practice of navigation. It collects and archives the knowledge and expertise of the region and links sites of transmission. Its habour is the Vallée de la Vilaine.
Taking the idea of “making anywhere a school“, this diffuse university links these sites of knowledge, creating an alternative notion of knowledge, proposing different types of experience by doing and learning. Water offers a way of imagining a different relationship to knowledge – fluid, liquid, porous between different disciplines, approaches, and positions. The Floating University is a original time-space enabling people to create on, in and around water experiments in sharing and transmission.
Created in collaboration with Ecole Parallèle Imaginaire. this fiction originally took the form of a two-week workshop in the summer of 2018 which allowed us to plan the overall concept of the Floating University through a survey of the Valley undertaken by 12 students in different disciplines. It was subsequently recreated twice on the occasion of the Year of Vilaine in the Champs Libres as a way of exploring memories of water and earth.
